Field investigations in southern and eastern Asia have been on the increase in recent years, providing new insights about the evolution of humans over the last 2 million years. A range of key topics in human evolutionary studies have emerged, including the influence of climate change on hominin demography, the timing and routes of human dispersal, and the technological and cultural adaptation of populations to a variety of ecosystems.  The purpose of this talk is to highlight some recent archaeological researchin southern and eastern Asia, discussing the implications of these records for understanding the evolution of populations over the long-term and across a vast geographic area.
